400G QSFP-DD Optical Transceivers

The 400G QSFP-DD (Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density) module is a hot-pluggable form factor designed for high-speed optical networking applications. QSFP-DD outlook and connector is like the current QSFP form factor, but it has an additional row of contacts provided for an eight-lane electrical interface that operates at 50 Gbps using PAM4 modulation supporting speeds up to 400G. Nowadays 400G is one of the highest data rates in the Ethernet world, offering improved capabilities for key aggregation and high‑bandwidth interconnection applications. These modules are commonly used in data centers, enterprise networks, and telecommunications infrastructure to support high-speed data transmission and meet the demands of emerging technologies like 5G. To ensure reliable data transmission, 400G QSFP-DD modules often incorporate Forward Error Correction. FEC helps detect and correct errors in transmitted data, improving the overall reliability of the communication link. 400G QSFP-DD has been defined by the QSFP-DD MSA Group as high-density, high-speed pluggable modules that are backward compatible with 200G QSFP-DD,100G QSFP28, and even 40G QSFP+. Our compatible QSFP-DD portfolio consists of transceivers that can operate over Single-Mode or Multi-Mode optical Fiber, can be used for connection distances from a couple of meters up to 40 kilometers, and can support up to 425 Gbps data rate and 400G Ethernet application. As well as 400G QSFP-DD AOC and 400G QSFP-DD DAC Cable, where they can be used. Our QSFP-DD portfolio consists of 400GBASE-SR8, 400GBASE-DR4/ DR4+, 400GBASE-FR4, 400GBASE-LR8, 400GBASE-LR4, 400GBASE-ER8, 400GBASE-ER4 Lite and 400G BIDI QSFP-DD which are defined by QSFP-DD MSA, 100G Lambda MSA, CMIS 4.0 and IEEE 802.3bs 400 Gbps specification. 400G-QSFP-DD transceivers can work on almost all networking equipment, where there is no special algorithm for protection against third-party modules. However – we have accumulated deep expertise in custom-encoded firmware for our 400G QSFP-DD portfolio to make these modules work in almost any brand of equipment. Frequently Asked Questions about 400G QSFP-DD

What is the difference between OSFP vs QSFP-DD?

The OSFP and QSFP-DD form factors are alike, but differ in power capacity, with OSFP supporting more power (up to 15W*) compared to QSFP-DD (up to 12W*). OSFP facilitates early adoption due to its higher power allowance. However, the QSFP-DD port offers backward compatibility with QSFP+ (40G), QSFP28 (100G), and QSFP56 (200G).

What is the difference between QSFP-DD vs QSFP28?

The QSFP-DD shares the same physical dimensions (width, length, and thickness) as QSFP+, QSFP28, and QSFP56. However, it differs in having an 8-lane electrical interface, whereas other QSFP modules use a 4-lane interface.
